I'm going to be honest, I am one of those annoying group fitness lovers who is very particular about instructors. I know if you read the blog, this is no surprise, but I will openly admit it. So when the Boss told me he was having a sub teach his class, I decided to stay at home and do an early morning Tabata workout at home.

I love to workout but doing a Tabata set at home by myself is not something that gets me excited. So what else would I do but drag my bestie out of bed with me! Fortunately Jen is a trooper and willing to do almost anything with me. (I know, I definitely hit the jackpot in the Friends department in life). So she and I planned to FaceTime with each other at 6:30 AM and do a quick, 30 minute, 5 set Tabata workout together.

As soon as Jen called, I wondered why we didn't do this more often. Seeing her smiling face first thing in the morning made me SO HAPPY. Literally wanted to reach through the phone and give her a big hug.

I had written out a 5 set workout the night before and had my Tabata timer ready. All we need was a set of towels or gliders and we got started. I had trained with the Boss the day before so I was taking it easy on strength and focused on cardio and core strength. Here's how we broke down the 5 rounds:

  1. Jump squats and Burpees with a push up and tuck jump
  2. Knee tucks and circles on a smooth surface with towels or gliders
  3. Spider man push up and one handed planks
  4. Star jumps and 180 jumps
  5. Boat hold and V ups

We literally cranked it out in 30 minutes and was off making breakfast and lunches for the kids by 7:00 AM. If you have a good friend who likes to workout but does not live close by, I highly recommend a virtual workout session like this one. It was so much fun and a great opportunity of us to check in with each other. And of course hold us accountable! :)
